Groaners are former citizens of Tertium who have been infected by one was the many Walking Pox variants plaguing the hive city.
Although they are still technically alive, they feel an unnatural hunger and cold deep within them. They have lost control of their bodies as the rot sets in, but remain conscious of their actions. They feel the worms and rot under their skin. The cold and the hunger. The deprivation and despair. The Pain. They wish for an end to their suffering, but in a sick twist they endure.
Overview[]
Groaners are still conscious humans, fully aware of their surroundings, but are no longer in control of their body. They can be heard crying for aid or mercy as this plague tortures their body and soul. Unlike Poxwalkers, who have died at least once, these former citizens are still alive. Their bodies spill blood and gore, unlike poxxers who are bloated with maggots and puss.
Groaners typically carry crude, low-quality melee weapons such as pipes, gear-head axes, and other improvised close-combat weapons.
Lights Out[]
In missions affected by the Power Supply Interruption special condition, stationary groups of about 30 Poxwalkers or Groaners huddled together in the darkness can be stumbled upon.
Map Variants[]
Each map has unique clothing variations for both Poxwalker and Groaner hordes. These variants better reflect the former civilian population of the area.
