The official Fatshark Youtube channel posts various audio messages, typically used for promotional purposed to drum up interest prior to an update. These diegetic pieces of media are typically labeled as a Vox message. They aren't too significant to grander narrative or world building, but they do provide additional flavor to certain updates and characters.

DARKTIDE (pg. 16) |
---|
This year has seen the long-awaited release of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, a first-person shooter action game by Fatshark - the studio that brought us the incredible Vermintide series of video games. In many ways, Darktide is the spiritual sequel to Vermintide. This time, the action is set on a hive world of the far future, the enemy is a horde of Chaos-worshipping cultists and everyone has guns. Lots of guns! |
You play the role of a former penal trooper inducted into the ranks of the Inquisition by the mysterious Inquisitor Lord Grendyll. Given this new lease on life (a dubious salvation at best!), you and your ragtag team must investigate the depths of Tertium Hive, discover the enemy's plans and eliminate - with extreme prejudice - any foes who get in your way. As you might expect, the game is tense, terrifying, grim, dark, utterly immersive and so action-packed you won't know what to hit next with your chainsword. |
INQUISITORIAL INTERVENTION |
To celebrate the launch of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, we thought it would be cool to recreate some of the character classes from the game in miniature form. Opposite, you willl find some exciting background about Tertium Hive, the setting for the game, while over the page you will find information about the four character classes: the Veteran, Zealot, Ogryn and Psyker. This is accomplished by inspirational conversation based on the character in fame, all lovingly built and painted by members of the Warhammer Studio (Anders, the Game Director at Fatshark, even contributed a couple of his own creations - Ed). Lastly, you'll find a painting guide showing you how to paint your characters just like the ones featured in the Darktide trailer. So what are you waiting for? Select a character, play the fame, smash some heretics, then convert a model of your chosen character to use on the tabletop. Sounds like a proper hobby mash-up to us! |
INTO TERTIUM HIVE (pg. 17) |
The hive world of Atoma Prime was colonised by humans many millennia ago. Thought cut off from the rest of Mankind for thousands of years, the planet eventually came back into the fold during the Great Crusade and has been a part of the Imperium ever since. |
The ruling hive city on Atoma Prime is Tertium Hive, a vast sprawling conurbation the size of a major country that rises like a colossus into the polluted clouds. Rampant Industrial growth over thousands of years has seen many smaller hives amalgamated and subsumed by Tertium, which is now home to billions upon billions of people. |
The principle industry within and around the hive is the mining and refining of Moebian iron, a much-desired material in the creation of spaceship armour and tank hulls across the sector. This makes Tertium a vital asset to the Imperium and Imperial war efforts. It is little wonder that the forces of the Dark Gods seek to corrupt and overthrow Atoma and take it valuable resources for their own. |
