The Moebian 6th Regiment is an Imperial unit that has turned traitor. The regiment has fallen to the worship of Nurgle, whose gifts have made its soldiers tougher than the average guardsman. They now fight for the forces of Chaos ("Traitorus Militarum"), using their superior training and equipment to further the schemes of their dark deity.

Moebians colloquially refer to their guardsmen as "lasmen". The 6th are recruited solely from Atoma Prime and Tertium Hive, being once the most beloved and revered regiment of the Atoman populace. Even some of Tertium's nobles have had their children join its ranks. Their long service record shows continued deployment to the Moebian Front, where they assisted in fending off the extensive xenos and chaos threats, known colloquially as the Darktide. The constant Fringe Wars lead to them becoming the toughest and most decorated Moebian regiment of the wars. During the Fringe Wars they were always stationed where the fighting was thickest, positioned to take on the biggest threats. The ceaseless combat shook their faith in the Imperial Creed, and they became susceptible to dark forces from beyond the material plain.

They discovered a dark "truth" while beleaguered from fighting the never-ending Fringe Wars. They now seek to spread this dark revelation, looking to free their people of its Imperial yoke in the process.

The regiment was scheduled to return to the Moebian Fringes, to continue fending off the "Darktide", but were redirected by orders of House Margrave to return to Atoma in order to quell a Nurglish cult uprising. The Moebian 6th returned and began positioning themselves to combat the cult only to reveal themselves as traitors well-positioned to overtake all Imperial control of Tertium's lower hive.

The Wyrmwood Vox Transmissions give a brief record of the Modeian 6th's arrival and betrayal upon Atoma.

Organisation[]

The Moebian 6th are the most elite and well-supplied of all Moebian regiments. Moebian regiments tend to rely on heavily armoured infantry for making strategic advances during combat. This heavily-armoured infantry includes both melee and ranged heavy-weapons specialists, and both have human and Ogryn members. Other specialists include snipers, flamer-troops and demolitionists.

Ranged Melee Specialist
Human Shooter, Stalker Bruiser Sniper, Trapper, Bomber, Flamer

Traitor Captains who once commanded a Company have more personal loadouts. Typically having a personal void-shield, they sometimes wield plasma pistols and force swords. Captain also sport additional attire, such as fur capes, trophies, and bespoke armour or helmets.

Standard Moebian 6th Lasmen

Moebian 6th basic lasmen swear by Agripinaa flak helmets, both as effective armour and lucky charms, after enduring heavy enemy shelling on Nox Secundus. Rebreathers and round lumen goggles are common among Moebian regiments.

The 6th sport matte, dark grey or light blue paint on their flak body armour. The fatigues are a range from a light, ash grey to dark, earthy grey tones. Elites or specialists have dark, burnt-orange markings to signify their roles. Regimental markings (alongside blasphemous runes) are painted in white. Hazard-stripes are added to particular elite and specialist equipment where applicable. The traitors also have a generous assortment of spike adorning various armour plates.

Known Members[]

  • Captain Wolfer - Highest known authority of the Moebian 6th Traitor Regiment. The Karnak twins are his two most trusted lieutenants.
  • Captain Helmag (likely deceased) - She relied heavily on Captain Wolfer. While on Nox Alpha, Helmag would put Rodin Karnak up on charges which would inevitably be cleared off by Wolfer, as seems to be a regular occurrence. Took a round on Nihil Ridge, likely succumbing to the wound.
  • Captain Zhurgtal
  • Rinda Karnak - The Karnak twins are two of Captain Wolfer's closest lieutenants. Quietly partook in cannibalism on Nox Alpha, when the supplies were running short.
  • Rodin Karnak - An officer many recruits saw as unfit for their role, often getting in fights with recruits and beating them within an inch of their life. Known for fighting like a daemon in battle.
  • Commissar Magsen (likely deceased) - An intimidating Commissar of the 6th. Know to've butted heads with Wolfer while on Nox Alpha.
  • Colonel Gortun (likely traitor) - A fiery, old man who knew no fear. Called 'old Gortun' the lasmen he lead. Fought like Hel and would give his life for any one of his soldiers. Fought at Nihil Gorge on Nox Alpha. At some point, he would disappear never to be seen again. Occurring sometime after the appearance of an unsettling, new priest appeared by his side.
  • Sergeant Geeren (likely deceased) - Loyalist 6th. Attacked by Wolfer's company at Anchorpoint Jorholm and assumedly died there while fighting, or alternatively, sometime after attempting to notify command.
  • Trooper Hollan (deceased) - A trooper who was known to have a feud with Rinda Karnak. Disappeared on Nox Alpha, likely made a meal of within Rinda's tent.
  • Sergeant Dario Fylo (unknown) - Seemingly a storied, and more light-hearted, member of the 6th who climbed their ranks.
    • Fylo's Pride

      "Fylo's Pride" camo

"This parade-pattern is so garish it was abandoned entirely by the Moebian Sixth, until Dario Fylo – then a sergeant – wore it to battle as a dare. Such was his kill-count that day, that the Sixth adopted the pattern as an honorary “camo” designation." -(Ogryn Blade (Fylo's Pride))

Known Conflicts[]

The Moebian 6th are known for their extensive deployments to Fringe Campaigns on the Moebian Front. The Nox Wars could have been a pivotal campaign in the Fringe Wars.

The Nox Wars[]

  • Nox Alpha Campaign - Nox Alpha is a planet of particular military focus for the Fringe Campaign. (Luetin09 Deep Dive) The air of Nox Alpha is many times more deadly than the heavily-polluted air of the 6th's home, Atoma Prime. No rebreather would result in a condition referred to as 'Lungers' Cough', other results include truly gruesome deaths. The 6th fought in perpetual darkness of the Tenebrus, delved into the horrors hidden within the Grundrak forest, and through the deadly red mists of the storm-riven, equatorial Hellus region.
    • Siege of the Thradium Stronghold - A stronghold within the Hellus region sieged by the Moebian 6th.
  • Battle of Nox Secundus - "Since the scouring of Nox Secundus, which saw eight Moebian battle groups endure a week of intense enemy shelling, the Moebian 6th, 9th and 12th have sworn by Agripinaa flak helmets, asboth efficacious armour and lucky charms." (Bundle - Agripinaa flak helmets)

Dan Abnett: Moebian Sixth[]

Renowned 40k author, Dan Abnett, wrote much of Darktide's lore and backstory, including the Moebian 6th, discusses who the Moebian Sixth are in a Dev Blog post on Fatshark Forums. The portions of the post related to the Moebian 6th is quoted below and the original Dev Blog post is linked here.
Dev Blog: Moebian Sixth - June 22, 2022
"The ‘character’ is the Moebian Sixth itself, the regiment, and the soldiers who make it up come in distinctly different ‘flavours’, with different looks and different behaviours. So you might not get to know them on a personal basis, but you’ll get to know their types, and from that, a picture of the Moebian Sixth will quickly build up.

The question, then, is who are they? Well, they’re Imperial Guard, which is to say soldiers of the Astra Militarum. They are - or were - humans, just like you and me. They are the sort of conscript troops who, in other circumstances, would be the heroes of a story, fighting to protect the citizens and unity of the Imperium. They may all be ‘uniform’ because of their, you know, uniforms, but they are individuals, with different skills and strengths, and different flaws and weaknesses.

There’s something chilling and sad about seeing a proud regiment of the Militarum filling the role of the enemy. These men were veterans: brave, well-trained, determined, and tough. Raised, for the most part, on Atoma Prime itself, they were sent away to war, and served long tours in the so-called Fringe War, a pacification campaign that has rumbled on for years in the feral worlds at the edge of the Moebian Domain. There are several Moebian regiments, in fact, but the Sixth is the most famous, the most decorated, and the most celebrated. Back home on Atoma, to the citizens of Tertium Hive, they are heroes. You don’t get lasmen any tougher than the Moebian Sixth.

They have spent their lives (and, in many cases, given their lives) to fight that campaign and keep the people of Atoma, and all the other populated worlds of the Moebian Domain, safe and free from invasion. Though it’s only a small chunk of the unbelievably vast Imperium of Man, the Domain is a significant tract of space. It’s a fiefdom of several important worlds, loyal to the Throne of Terra, ruled over by the Lord Margrave of Atoma. Think of it like a province or a self-governing state. It pays its tithes and taxes to Terra, it obeys the laws of Terra, and it manufactures vast quantities of goods for the Imperium. It’s important. It must not be lost, or invaded, or ever fall to the darkness that lies in the disputed territories it borders. Those territories, which are ‘parts unknown’, wild worlds outside the Imperium’s remit, are a hotbed of alien (“xenos”) and daemonic threat. To the average citizen of Atoma and its sister worlds, the nature of that threat is a mystery. It’s just called ‘the Darktide’, a boogeyman threat that must be kept at bay. That’s why they have the regiments of the Astra Militarum.

The Moebian Domain, like all worlds and world-groups of the Imperium, is responsible for raising, supporting and equipping its own armies, which fall under the auspices of the Astra Militarum. The young people recruited to regiments like the Sixth have no idea where they’re being sent, or what they will face. They are as ignorant of the ‘Darktide’ as any other regular citizen, for they were all citizens themselves.

They quickly learn. The galaxy of Warhammer 40,000 is not a friendly or safe place. There are brutal horrors out there - alien creatures, predators, xenos species, monsters, and worse - who want nothing more than to extinguish the fluttering flame of human civilisation. Out on the death worlds of the Fringe, the lasmen are thrown into the meatgrinder and come face to face with unimaginable danger. Their world-view changes. They learn the nature of the Darktide and fight it tooth and nail.

Sometimes, they learn too much.

Long tours result in trauma, both physical and psychological. Some are broken by the experience. Some are made bitter and resentful that the gruelling combat they experience is generally unrecognised back home, because the Imperial Administratum tends to keep all details of the ongoing conflict quiet so as not to generate public alarm. There might be a few news broadcasts about ‘great victories’, but the rest of the turmoil is screened by propaganda.

Some troopers, of course, serve brilliantly and bravely, and remain loyal. Despite everything they experience. But others fall prey to the insidious touch of the Darktide. They encounter the malevolent effect of the Warp, and it changes them. They become - literally, in some cases - the very thing they are fighting against.

And they fight well. The ‘character’ of the regiment comes from the different units and specialisations. They have fierce melee troops who excel at close range and hand-to-hand. They have storm troops, snipers, flame-troopers, demolition units, heavy-weapon squads. They have everything you’d need in an armed unit if you wanted to take down a world.

This regiment was recalled from the fringes by the ruling House Margrave to quell the heretical uprising of the Cult of Admonition (the dregs) on Atoma Prime. For unknown reasons the Moebian 6th joined the cultists instead.

So the Moebian Sixth is a regiment that’s turned traitor. They have been corrupted, by the trauma of their experiences, and by the polluting effects of the Warp. The guardians of Atoma have turned - in vengeance and hatred and spite - on the people they guard and the hive that raised them.

Ultimately, they are not just monsters looming out of the dark to kill you. They’re highly trained, highly-experienced veteran troopers, with full military gear. They have been seduced by the creed of the Darktide, and they have come home, not simply to kill and exact vengeance, but - more poignantly - to share the ‘truth’ they have uncovered. They truly believe they’ve seen the light, and that the dark ways they have discovered are far better and more liberating than the stagnant rubrics of the Imperium.  They want to share that truth with you… with you, and every living soul on Atoma.

So there’s a tragedy there. They absolutely don’t think they are evil. They absolutely think they’re doing the right thing. And they will absolutely kill you if you try to stop them.

You don’t get lasmen any tougher than the Moebian Sixth, after all."
